Dental Nurse

Job Description

Plymouth Community Dental Service is looking for experienced, friendly and supportive dental nurses to work alongside clinicians undertaking urgent care clinics provided to the people of Plymouth who are not registered with a dental practice.

The post holder will join a bank of Dental Nurses via NHSP and will be eligible to apply for posted clinic sessions according to personal availability.

Clinic sessions will be initially available Monday-Friday: 6pm-9pm and delivered at the Plymouth Dental Access Centre.

Main duties of the job

The Dental Nurse works as part of the clinical team to provide clinical care to un-registered patient requiring emergency dental treatment. The post holder will work alongside a dentist and be responsible for the set up and close of the surgery for each session. It is important that the Dental Nurse maintains a strong patient focus and pro-active approach to dealing with problems.

The service provides:

Access to wheelchair tipper and knee-break dental chair

Digital x-ray imaging

Upgraded dental surgeries

Ongoing sessions available until 31 March 2026

Qualifications

Essential

  • NEBDN qualification OR City & Guilds NVQ3 in Dental Nursing
  • Registered as a Dental Nurse with the GDC with no restrictions
  • GCSE English and Maths grade A-C (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 1 years dental nursing experience
  • Knowledge of all the equipment and materials used in dental and surgical procedures
  • Knowledge of key policies such as Health and Safety regulations and Cross Infection control measures
  • Experience of carrying out clinical and administrative work without direct supervision
